Manual physical therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy delivered with the hands as opposed to a device or machine. Lymphedema is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid that can occur when the lymphatic system becomes damaged or lymph nodes are surgically removed, such as during breast cancer treatment. This can cause swelling in the arm, hand, and sometimes in the chest, breast, and back. Lymphedema can also occur in the leg or lower leg. Though lymphedema is incurable, it is readily treatable. We offer a comprehensive program for lymphedema management by a certified lymphedema therapist that may include: · Medical compression bandaging · Designing an exercise program to improve lymphatic flow · Working on scar tissue prevention · Education on lymphedema precautions, prevention, and skin care · Education on resources available |
