Lymphedema Therapy

Lymphedema is an accumulation of protein-rich fluid in the superficial tissues. Lymphedema is best treated by Manual Lymph Drainage and Complete Decongestive Therapy.
Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) MLD is a gentle manual technique that redirects lymph fluid to healthy lymph vessels which drain into the venous system.
Compression Therapy Compression therapy increases tissue pressure and prevents re-accumulation of lymph fluid. Compression therapy uses compression through short stretch bandages and later progressed to compression garments.
Exercises Home exercise programs consist of self administered manual lymph drainage techniques and/or decongestive exercises to help assist in the reduction of lymph fluid.
Skin Care To achieve optimal outcomes it is important to reduce the risk of infections and to decrease dry, flaking, cracking skin. Lotion is applied to help moisturize the skin. |
